Toro Restaurant and Bar- A Mother's Day Special: 4-Course Degustation Menu

The month of May is fast approaching and once again, it is the time of the month where we give honor to our mother's and all mother's around the world.

Aside from buying her flowers, writing her a card and taking her to a spa, why don't you treat Mom to a gastronomic delight in a fancy restaurant?

Why don't you bring Mom to Toro.

Toro Restaurant & Bar in BGC, would like to invite everyone to bring their mothers, wives, grandmothers and even the whole family to their restaurant for their Mother's Day Special Degustation Menu starting on May 1 to May 31, 2012.

Toro is a 1 year old restaurant in the heart of Bonifacio Gobal City that brings together the fusion of flavors from Tijuana, Mexico to Okinawa, Japan.

I would write more about Toro on my next post but for now, I would like to introduce their menu items for their Mother's Day promo.

Soup

Sopa De Ostiones- osyters and tomatoes served with hearbs and spices

Tomato-based soup with white beans, oysters, leeks and crispy sotanghon noodles. This was like a Mexican bean soup with a touch of Japanese flavors from the oysters and cheese in fried lumpia wrapper. The soup was light with a little hint of seafood flavor from the oysters and crunchiness from the fried noodles.

Salad

Cranberries and Bleu Cheese Saladorganic greens with cranberry jelly, bleu cheese and walnuts in strawberry balsamic dressing

Mother's will truly love this one of a kind salad that presents a beautiful arrangement of fresh lettuce, crispy noodle stalks and chives. Paired with a bed of cucumber slices topped with cranberry jelly, candied walnuts and bleu cheese, this is something different and worth to try.

The strawberry balsamic dressing is mixed with a special sauce that gives a kick of tolerable spiciness to the salad.

Maki

Scallop Maki- tempura battered crispy maki with marinated scallops

The Scallop Maki is one of the items that we wish to be included in their menu. This will definitely be a hit with the fresh taste of scallops wrapped in crispy fried tempura battered maki. Topped with   melted cheese and cream cheese, this is certainly my kind of maki.

You would also notice that the maki got a hint of spiciness on it. That is because kimchi and a little bit of alcohol was added to the rice mixture to neutralize the fishy taste from the scallops.

Main Dish

For the main course, you will be asked to choose between fish or beef.

Pescado in Verde- Pan-grilled king fish in creamy sauce

The seafood dish is a pan-grilled tanigue steak in creamy basil and thyme white sauce with spinach. Topped with asparagus and fried potato shreds, this is for people who wants something light yet flavorful.

Ribeye Teppanyaki- Grilled beef with buttered vegetables

For those who prefer red meat, then the Ribeye Teppanyaki is for you. Beautifully plated to please the eye, I can guarantee that it will also please your tummies. The slices of carrots, potatoes and zucchini hold together a pile of tender beef cubes in sweet asian sauce.

And to make this deal extra special, Toro will also provide a complimentary glass of wine and dessert shot.

A glass of Beringer White Zinfadel that highlights a fresh and citrus aroma and flavor of red berries and melon. It has this sweet and mellow taste of wine that is bursting with summer flavors perfect to compliment the summer season.

A dessert shot of Snickerdoodle that tasted similar to that of Bailey's with real chocolate bits.

Toro's 4-Course Degustation Menu is available for the whole month of May so be sure to drop by and treat your taste buds to a fusion of Mexican and Japanese delights.
