Kikkoman, the trusted and leading Japanese soy-sauce brand, recently brought together foodies and bloggers at the 25 Mushrooms Kitchen in Pasig, for a fun and exciting afternoon cooking lessons dubbed as Oriental Journey: Master Class. The event aims to unleash the inner chefs in us, as we recreate Japanese restaurant favorites that we all love. Of course, all dishes were #CookedWithKikkoman to bring out the authentic oriental flavors of every dish.
What is Japanese cuisine without the famous rice rolls topped with the freshest seafood? First dish on the list, Sushi! And not just one kind of sushi, but a Sushi Platter with assorted nigiri and gunkanmaki.
Our Sushi Platter includes Sake (salmon) nigiri, Ebi (prawn) nigiri, Uni (sea urchin) gunkanmaki, Spicy Tuna nigiri, and Kani (crabstick) nigiri.
Kikkoman makes it easier to recreate authentic restaurant-style dishes in the comforts of our home.
Firmly mold the rice with your hands, and make sure they are pressed tightly to make sure it won't break apart when picked up with chopsticks. Best to create bite-size pieces for easier consumption.
This recipe makes a lot so you can easily prepare this dish for the whole family. Again, simple ingredients are needed to bring out the natural flavors of the beef and vegetables.

After following the sushi rice recipe above, prepare your assorted seafood sushi toppings.

Since I love spicy tuna, I enjoyed making it the most. After cutting the tuna into cubes, you just have to mix it with hot sauce, togarashi powder, Japanese mayo, and Kikkoman soy sauce. Who says Kikkoman soy sauce is just for dipping?
Carefully top each rice with the various seafood ingredients and wrap some pieces with nori (seaweed) to hold the toppings in place. There you have it, your own sushi platter!
Next, we cooked another Japanese favorite- Katsudon. I was so excited to recreate my favorite Pork Katsudon, which we only get to eat in restaurants.
Preparing the pork tonkatsu was fun and easy. It involved some pounding, coating and deep frying.
Here are the ingredients you need for your Pork Katsudon. As you can see, you only need minimal ingredients for this dish. The secret lies in the Kikkoman Teriyaki Sauce, a blend of Kikkoman's traditionally brewed soy sauce and spices, to produce that sweet and savory flavor.
In a skillet, saute the mushrooms, onions and leeks in oil. Mix in the Kikkoman Teriyaki Sauce, add sugar if desired, then put in the pork tonkatsu. Lastly, pour the lightly mixed egg into the katsu and cook for a minute. Best to leave the egg runny, and carefully slide everything on top of your rice bowl.
Our last dish was another Japanese classic- Sukiyaki. After using seafood and pork as main ingredients for the first two dishes, this time, we used beef to recreate this sweet and hearty Beef Sukiyaki.
This recipe makes a lot so you can easily prepare this dish for the whole family. Again, simple ingredients are needed to bring out the natural flavors of the beef and vegetables.
First step is to mix beef with Kikkoman Soy Sauce and lightly saute in a pan. Do the same with the tofu to enhance its taste. Set aside while you cook the vegetables.
In a large pot, saute the vegetables and add the Kikkoman soy sauce. Pour in the broth, add sugar, and season with pepper to taste. Simmer until vegetables becomes tender. Add in the tofu, noodles and beef and let it simmer. Lastly, mix in the cabbage and add egg if desired.
That concludes our Kikkoman Oriental Journey Master Class at the 25 Mushrooms Kitchen. It was definitely an event and experience to remember. I can't wait to whip up more oriental dishes with Kikkoman Soy Sauce and Kikkoman Teriyaki Sauce.
Just as everyone thought the event has ended, Kikkoman brought out a special dessert- vanilla ice cream drizzled with Kikkoman soy sauce. The perfect meal ender to a hot summer day!
