Jack Frost Premium Ice Cream- Homemade Artisan Ice Cream

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Last month, we were invited to an ice cream tasting session at Jack Frost's headquarters. The man behind Jack Frost, Mr. Bonner Dytoc welcomed us in his humble home where he makes his wonderful ice cream creations.

Jack Frost is a home-based business that has been around quite sometime. The brand is currently being offered in some restaurants around the Metro but hasn't gone mainstream yet. For now, their mode of distribution is through restaurants (YenYen, Lunchbox), City Delivery, Gilmore Wines & Spirits, and through pickups.

The first flavor that they perfected and is currently one of their best-sellers is Basil. That's right, basil-flavored ice cream!

Who would have thought that Basil would be a great ice cream flavor? It is certainly my favorite from Jack Frost. What I love about this creation is that it's not your usual sweet treat that makes you get tired of the taste after some time. It has a distinct herb flavor that's fresh, minty and sweet.

Being a cheesecake lover, another favorite of mine is Jack Frost's cheesecake series (Blueberry, Oreo, Strawberry).

Although I love blueberry so much, The Oreo Cheesecake was more of my liking. I could actually munch on some cookie bits. As for the Blueberry and Strawberry Cheesecake, I noticed that the fruit preserves were unevenly distributed making some parts loaded with toppings while others short of the fruit mixins. Nevertheless, it was good as I could taste some hint of grahams in it.

Other unique flavors that we've tried were:
  • Choco Galcier- Chocolate Mint
  • Morning Rush- Coffee and Candied Bacon
  • Energo- Chocolate w/ Choco-covered Pop Rocks
  • WMD- Wintermelon Delight
  • Silky Amber- Salted Butter Caramel
  • Almond Spice- Almond with Ginger
  • Nuts & Roses- Rose and Pistachio Nuts
  • Peanut Butter and Jam

Each flavor from Jack Frost has its own unique and distinct taste. If you love chocolate mint, then Choco Glacier is for you. I love the minty and cooling taste it brings on every spoonful.

For coffee lovers, try the Morning Rush which has candied bacon in it. It is basically coffee ice cream with bacon bits in it.

Choco Glacier and Morning Rush

Energo is inspired from an energy drink mixed with chocolate coated pop rocks. They coated the pop rocks with chocolate so that they won't pop once mixed with the ice cream. A sure hit to kids and kids at heart that brings back memories of our childhood.

A popular milk tea flavor, WMD has a soft and creamy consistency that melts easily. For those who love wintermelon juice or milk tea, this one certainly won't fail you.

Silky Amber is a take on the famous Salted Caramel flavor. Texture was again soft, smooth and creamy with a balanced combination of salty and buttery sweet taste.

Almond Spice is another interesting flavor that gave us a break from all the sweets we consumed. It has a minty and cooling effect to the palate that tasted clean and light.

For a light and nutty choice, try the Nuts & Roses mixed with my favorite pistachio nuts. The Peanut Butter and Jam on the other hand was sweet and rich, like something you'd love to pair up with a warm soft bread.

Jack Frost Premium Ice Creams are sold by Pints (P200-P250), Half Gallon (P700-P800) and Gallon (P1,300-P1,500)

We even got to take home a pint of their Blueberry Cheesecake which my mom and I consumed the next day. Honestly, I was able to appreciate the flavor more the second time around :)

It's Beryllicious Picks:
Basil
Oreo Cheesecake
Almond Spice

I can't wait to try other flavors from Jack Frost. Being more of a sorbet person, I am looking forward to try their Lemon Mint and Orange Rosemary. I really hope that they could be more accessible for everyone in the future or they could probably join bazaars next time to promote their brand and be able to introduce their products in the market.

  9. Too bad we don't have it here in Cebu. Homemade ice cream flavors are so much better these days compared to commercially manufactured ones. I don't even like the Flavors of the World released by one brand. Given the chance, I'd probably try out their Oreo Cheesecake and Silky Amber. :)
