Cafe Sanso- Spanish Comfort Food in the Neighborhood of Little Baguio San Juan

Sometimes, meals are best enjoyed in simple places where one can fully appreciate the ambiance, food, and quality time with loved ones. We always look for what's "in" just to keep up with the trend even if it means queuing for hours for something you can devour in 20 minutes.

Away from the bustling and fast-paced dining scene is a quaint litlle cafe tucked in the quiet streets of Little Baguio called Cafe Sanso

Cafe Sanso is a Spanish cafe named after internationally-renowned artist Juvenal Sanso. For those interested in his masterpieces, his works can be seen at the Sanso Museum just beside the cafe.

The place is ideal for casual dates while still having that private and romantic feel. The menu is quite extensive for a cafe so diners are not limited to just coffee, snacks and pastries.

We had the Bacalao Croquetas (P320)- deep-fried balls of breaded salted cod fish flakes mixed with bechamel sauce.

The croquettes were moist and flavorful even without the creamy dressing. It's a great starter dish to tease the palate for what's more to come.

A cup of creamy Roasted Pumpkin Cappuccino (P140) was an excellent choice for our soup. It was a tad salty, but still delicious and unique especially with the touch of cinnamon froth. I just wish they could have filled up the bowl more than halfway.

For our main dish, we ordered Cafe Sanso's best-selling Chorizo y Quezo Paella (P450)- cheesy paella smothered with melted manchego and mozarella mixed with chorizo Pamplona, chorizo de Bilbao and Spanish chorizo.

Serving is quite big, but I was surprised we managed to finish the whole thing easily. It's either because we were really hungry, or the paella was really that good. It may look plain and simple for a paella, but the flavors were bold and tasty. Plus, sausage and cheese is always a great combination don't you think?

It was a scorching hot afternoon so we cooled down with Cafe Sanso's Agua Fresca (P145) - a tall glass of refreshing fruit juice with honey and mint. Available flavors are: melon, watermelon and mango.

I would not have discovered this hidden gem if not for a deal I saw at Deal Grocer- one of my favorite group buying sites. I love how Deal Grocer handpick their partner merchants to ensure that they offer the best deals and feature not just mainstream establishments but also new places worthy of visiting. Just like how we discovered Cafe Sanso- a humble cafe that has a lot to be proud of. It is a nice place to just sit down, relax and enjoy the morning, afternoon or night with great Spanish dishes, drinks and desserts.

Did you know that you can send Deal Grocer vouchers as gift to friends and families? For a minimal fee of P20, you can have your coupon elegantly printed and wrapped in a chic envelope. Deal Grocer will even deliver your gift vouchers for FREE!
