Miss traveling? Miss eating out? Miss your favorite local and international dishes? The past year truly has changed the way we live our lives. One day you are free to go anywhere you want, then the next day, you see yourself restricted to the four corners of your home.
Thankfully though, the quarantine season has introduced me to a world full of gastronomic delights.-home chefs and bakers showcasing their culinary skills and local food establishments offering their well-loved dishes for us to enjoy in the comforts of our home.
One restaurant I discovered during the ECQ is Saigon Corner in Sgt. Esguerra Ave. near Tomas Morato.
Saigon Corner specializes in authentic Vietnamese cuisine such as Bahn Mi, Pho, and rolls carefully prepared by Chef Trung. I had the chance to try some of Saigon Corner's best-selling dishes, and it was such a refreshing yet filling meal.
Caramelized Chicken Pops (Php185)
A house favorite, these breaded chicken lollipops were glazed with a caramelized soy dressing. While they were a bit on the salty side than sweet, they were still a hit for me.
Saigon Corner Spring Rolls (Php145)
You can never go wrong with crispy fried spring rolls filled with minced pork and veggies, then served with fish sauce vinaigrette on the side.
Charsiu Pork Banh Mi (Php200)
This traditional Vietnamese sandwich of crispy soft baguette was filled with generous servings of savory barbecue charsiu slices, pickled veggies, fresh veggies, and liver pate.
Coconut Chicken Pho (Php325)
The highlight of our meal from Saigon Corner was this comforting bowl of chicken pho. This chicken noodle soup however, is not just your ordinary Vietnamese noodle dish. Shreds of coconut meat were used instead of the usual rice noodles, while the broth was made with chicken stock and coconut water.
I am no fan of coconut, but this one was a sweet surprise. I loved the aromatic sweet broth that complemented the tender chunks of chicken and coconut noodles.
