The Halal Guys Gyro and Chicken in NYC Comes Over To Manila- SM Mega Food Hall

After 25 years in NYC, The Halal Guys finally opened their first branch outside the US. Lucky for us Filipinos, that place is here! Located in SM Megamall's Mega Food Hall, The Halal Guys has been drawing foodies from around the metro since it opened last October 13,2015.

A long queue just outside the food hall doesn't come as a surprise, as eager customers patiently wait for their turn to get a taste of The Halal Guys' famous gyro and chicken.

The famous platter of Gyro and Chicken Combo over rice is a surefire bestseller that offers two of The Halal Guys specialties. It features a combination of their perfectly spiced gyro (beef) and halal grilled chicken over a generous serving of fragrant jasmine, pita, lettuce, tomatoes, and The Halal Guys' signature white sauce. Their signature hot sauce, on the other hand, is served on the side.

The Gyro & Chicken platter comes in small (P269), regular (P369) and New York (P469) sizes.
Small is recommended for people with small appetite, while regular is good for one hungry or two light eaters. New York size is the regular size in New York which can already be shared by 2-3 people.

To fully enjoy The Halal Guys experience, mix everything carefully until the bright yellow rice is coated in their signature white sauce. You may also add a few drops of their special hot sauce (CAUTION:very spicy) for that extra heat and flavor. For those who can't tolerate anything spicy, JUST DON'T DO IT

The Halal Guys' also offers their famous gyro, chicken and falafel in wraps/sandwiches.

I got an order of the Chicken Sandwich (P199) in small size, but I still found the serving huge. I wonder how the New York size looks like.

The Halal Guys' Chicken Sandwich is really good, but I personally find their pita wrap too thick.

Of course, there's no way I would miss out on The Halal Guy's falafel. My favorite deep-fried chickpeas balls finally within my reach!

A side order of Falafel (P99) contains four pieces of the crunchy chickpeas patty smothered in rich and creamy white sauce. I love The Halal Guy's falafel- crunchy and crumbly in texture, with herby and perfectly spiced taste.

A look at The Halal Guys' menu, one may think that prices are ridiculously expensive. I initially thought the same, but after seeing their serving size, I can now say that prices are quite reasonable.

The Halal Guys certainly successfully captured the Filipino palates and hearts. Is it worth the wait in line? Yes, if it's just a little over 30 minutes. Two hours? I don't think so. Maybe I'll just wait for The Halal Guys PH to open up their second branch, when service becomes faster and more efficient. As for the food, everything we tried was really good and somehow lived up to our expectations.
