O'sonho (o-son-nyo) is this Portuguese Fusion Restaurant that we've been always meaning to try out in Eastwood Mall. I was very curious about Portuguese cuisine but every time we pass by O'sonho, I'm always intimidated by the place. I'm not sure if it's because of the fine-dining feel to it or maybe it was the bottles of wine on the tables. I don't know, but seeing wine bottles on the tables of restaurants intimidates me sometimes.
So when a deal for a set meal for 2 at O'sonho came up from Ensogo, I immediately grabbed the offer and purchased ourselves a voucher.
We decided to avail it at their Makati branch along Jupiter Street which I found less intimidating than the branch in Eastwood.
We started with a famous Portuguese green vegetable soup called Caldo Verde (P180) which is made from sautéed spinach with hearty broth then puréed for a thick and creamy consistency.
Next served was the Lemony Shrimp Salad (P230) which is a simple combination of sautéed prawns, cherry tomatoes, diced cucumber and romaine lettuce tossed in a sweet, refreshing and tangy home-made lemon vinaigrette.
We both loved the home-made vinaigrette and the overall taste of the salad, however, we were a little disappointed with its serving size. Given that it is regularly priced at P230, we expected a bigger serving for this. I don't know of this is their regular serving, but it could just pass up as a side salad for me.
Stuffed Fish Fillet (P220)
Our first main course was O'sonho's Stuffed Fish Fillet- baked white fish fillet covered with Portuguese herbs ad spices then stuffed with bell pepper, capsicum, onions and tomatoes.
First thing we noticed about this dish was the amount of rice served under the fish fillet that seems to be just one-third a cup. It was also more of a "topped" rather than "stuffed" for the onions, tomatoes and bell peppers which lies atop the fish fillet.
Taste wise, the dish was a great tasting ensemble with a medley of spices and herbs that complemented the tender and flaky white fish fillet.
Coffee Marinated Roast Pork (P490)
Our second course was this Coffee Marinated Roast Pork- Unmistakably Original! Succulent and juicy roast pork bathed in a delicious coffee marinade served with herbs whipped potatoes.
Again, the serving size for this main course failed us. I honestly wouldn't pay for the regular price of P490 for this dish. Nevertheless, taste was really good and I love the distinct bitter-sweet coffee flavor from the marinade- reminds me of the coffee braised beef we had in Chow Fun before. The slow roasted pork was also tender with the right amount of fat to make it more succulent and juicy.
And the highlight of the night was this Portuguese Custard Tart (P130/3 pcs.) that we both loved. It is a famous egg custard pie with a flaky dough served piping hot on the table. A regular order comes in three pieces but for our deal, we were just given one each. We badly wished there was a third one.
Since our deal didn't include drinks, we ordered for their Fresh Iced Lemon Tea (P170) for sharing. We were ask if we wanted our iced tea to be served in a carafe or fish bowl and we excitedly opted for the latter.
The bowl was filled almost halfway with their freshly brewed iced tea with slices of lemons. The drink was served cold but a bit bland for our liking. We had fun drinking on it though.

Hmm, interesting. SErving size not good but taste is good. Naku, dilemma yan!
ReplyDeleteTrue. We have to remember though that this post was made from a voucher. Based on experience, food establishments wouldn't exactly pay the usual servings for deal redemptions.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. The prices are reasonable pala. I'd love to try this soon! :)
ReplyDeleteI should try this as I just lived nearby Jupiter, Makati. Their food offerings seem interesting.
ReplyDeleteI think this is really the problem when we use vouchers :( Restos can serve us smaller portions of every dish for their so-called sets >.<
ReplyDelete@sumirehana013:disqus agree.. nkakadala tuloy mnsan :( better if you could order anything from the menu tlga then half off nlg sa total :)
ReplyDeleteagree :( but in fairness to other restaurants, some offer regular sized dishes even to voucher holders :)
ReplyDeleteI noticed that too. That's why we seldom buy vouchers that are in sets. Sometimes the sets are smaller or some items are not really worth ordering.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if those sizes offer are really 50% off though cause otherwise its false advertisement
ReplyDeleteregular serving for the custard tarts should come in 3 pcs but we only got 2 :(
ReplyDeleteI hope to try this restaurant after my wife and I come home from Portugal! ;)
ReplyDeleteI think it is quite pricey for the serving size of the food I see in your pictures. :(
ReplyDeleteDid you just say pork in coffee? How bitter and aromatic was this dish to your palate? It sounds weird.
ReplyDeleteMay i ask how much you paid for the voucher? Is it worth the price of the voucher?
ReplyDeleteyummy food! :)

I have yet to experience dining at a Portuguese restaurant. This should be on my list, although I'm quite sure this has been tweaked to cater to Filipino palate
ReplyDeleteI hope i can try to eat on this restaurant soon but I'm hoping the serving size is enough for me.
ReplyDeleteThe salad looks so crisp and fresh. And the coffee marinated roast pork is really intriguing :)
ReplyDelete@liajk:disqus yes.. good thing we got vouchers so it was discounted.. but still we were disappointed with the serving size..
ReplyDelete@facebook-100002707209588:disqus it actually tasted good :) not too bitter.. more on sweet than bitter with the aroma of coffee :)
ReplyDeleteThe custard tart looks lovely! Great food photos you have, by the way. I'm suddenly hungry. :)
ReplyDeletewould love to try this resto one of these days
