Red Onion Cafe- Taiwan Favorites in UP Town Center Katipunan

Red Onion Cafe has always been on our list of restaurants to try at the UP Town Center in Katipunan. Aside from our fascination with Taiwanese food, their signature hand-shaved beef noodles is one of the reasons why we look forward to checking the place out.

Red Onion Cafe's 39 Spices Beef Noodle is available in All Meat (P258) or 1/2 Beef, 1/2 Tendon (P288)

The broth was very tasty and flavorful with a slightly sweet note. But, what really makes their beef noodles special is that you can request for extra servings of their hand-shaved noodles at no additional cost.

Aside from the beef noodles, we were also eager to try the Taiwanese Crispy Dumplings (P198)

Half pan fried and half boiled, the contrasting texture of chewy and crunchy made these dumplings a crowd favorite. I especially loved the sweet crispy layer that holds the dumplings together.

Shi Lin Night Market Pork Chop (P188)

While Shi Lin night market is famous for its chicken chop, Red Onion Cafe offers a pork version of the famous street market snack. It is best paired with their Lu Rou Rice (P88)- a Taiwanese specialty of braised pork stew on rice and considered to be the single most popular dish in Taiwan.

Another great dish we tried in Red Onion Cafe was their Eggplant with Fresh Basil (P198). Ironic how I forgot to take a photo of the dish as it was one of our favorites during our visit. It was simple yet bursting with flavors from their special sauce and fresh basil.

Lastly, we ordered their intriguing Spiced and Iced Coffee Latte (P128)

I was basically a glass of coffee ice cubes served with a carafe of spiced milk. The taste of coffee gets stronger as the ice cubes melt. It was really an interesting drink but honestly, we weren't a fan.

I recommend checking out Red Onion Cafe for Taiwanese specialties such as their 39 Spices Beef Noodles, Crispy Dumplings, and Eggplant with Fresh Basil.
