Who doesn't love Japanese cuisine? Authentic Japanese dishes such as sushi, sashimi, tempura, and teppanyaki, never seem to disappoint any cravings. But if it's fusion you are looking for, then check out The 5th Taste along P.Guevarra in San Juan for some modern Japanese cuisine.
Start off with a Deconstructed Miso Soup (P98)- silken tofu, leeks and pork floss in a glass cup with the miso broth served separately pour-over style. Plus points for creativity and presentation!
The 5th Taste has the classic California Maki (P170) on the menu, but also offers something different like this Smoked Mackerel Maki (P150)- smoked mackerel flakes, cucumber, and mango.
Mussels Tempura (P150)- battered mussels with wasabi mayo and sweet eel dressing
As interesting as it may look, I still prefer my favorite ebi and kakiage tempura. The batter was quite thick that I couldn't taste the natural flavors of the mussels anymore.
How would you like to have your kani salad? In a bowl? In a plate? Or perhaps you'd like it on a pizza? The Kani Salad Pizza (P225)- crispy thin crust topped with kani, cucumber, carrots, and mozzarella, drizzled with creamy japanese mayo. Sprinkle some chili or nori powder for added taste and heat.
The 5th Taste Cheesesteak Sandwich (P200) is a unique take on the classic Philly sandwich using stir-fried beef sukiyaki with melted mozzarella cheese on ciabatta bread. Plus some serving of crispy fries on the side for an ultimate cheesesteak sandwich experience.
Crispy Chicken Curry (P220)- Lightly crisped chicken served alongside Omurice (steamed rice wrapped in omelette) with mozzarella and mildly spiced Japanese Curry.
Wait 'til you get inside this tender and meaty Jalapeño Cream Cheese Onion Tonkatsu (P325)- pork cutlet with jalapeño cream cheese and onion filling. It's not too spicy as the cream cheese tones down the heat from the jalapeño. It is also served with Japanese coleslaw on the side.
