Where does one go for homemade burrata, pasta and brick oven pizza? - Gino's Brick Oven Pizza!
It was a lazy Saturday afternoon, one day before my birthday, and what better way to celebrate than to pig out and check one restaurant off my list.
We finally step foot in the famous Gino's Brick Oven Pizza in Katipunan. The restaurant was empty during our visit so we had the whole place to ourselves.
Of course, we just had to order Gino's famous homemade Burrata with House Salad (P395)
Serving size was huge, and since D isn't a fan of cheeses, I had this whole thing to myself. I found the light and curdy cream in the mozzarella skin subtle and bland for my liking, but it went perfectly well with some of the leftover pizza crusts. Personally though, I still prefer some salty-sweet cream cheese on my carbs. The side salad on the other hand was a delight to the palate. We loved the fresh greens in sweet balsamic dressing topped with candied walnuts, dried figs and parmigiano reggiano shavings.
Another dish on the menu that got me interested was this Salted Egg Pasta (P210). I am a big fan of anything with salted egg and this one did not disappoint. It was like a creamy carbonara with a hint of salted egg. The fettuccine was firm and al dente, but I wish they could enhance the salted egg flavor a bit. Serving size is good for one, so if you are a fan of salted egg like me, make sure you order another one.
Finally, the famous SMEGG Pizza (P450) everyone is raving about. True enough, it was amazing! It has a nice puffy and chewy crust topped with all the right stuff- homemade sausage, mushrooms, eggs, gouda and cream. It is best eaten with Gino's signature Spicy Honey sauce and some chili flakes.
I wanted to have a cheese doughnut from Cello's, which was a favorite of mine back in college, but we were too full for more carbs. I'll remember to save some space when we go back next time.
Overall, everything we ordered was pretty good. We came in with high expectations, and Gino's Brick Oven Pizza delivered. Will definitely go back to try other pasta and pizza flavors!
